Royal Sovereign v Stoke Newington

Author: Simon Hore, 29/04/13

Stoke Newington won by five wickets

On a day of bright sunshine and big clouds London Fields was looking green and the pitch very good.

Royal Sovereign opened with Chris Walters and Ian Donatien to some tight early overs before Ian was stumped after losing his balance. In came Nick Franks and they seem to have settled when Stoke Newington brought on Abulkasim Nalla with some spin, who bowled both Chris (top scorer with 37) and Nick (19). Mark Stephney and Ken steadied the ship before Ken Willock went for 34 with the score on 132. Wickets fell steadily after that. The Sovereign finished on 174 all out

Abulkasim Nalla 6 overs 3-29, Ali Asgar 3 overs 2-10, Sadar 5 overs 2-22

Stoke Newington started well but lost both openers (Ali S 16 and Raheem 1) on 18 to rash shots and a good catch. in came Winston and Russell who fell almost immediately for 0 so Stoke Newington were in some trouble.

Then came Ali Asgar who looked solid and Winston pushed the score on, falling for 19 to a fantastic running catch in the deep with the score in the mid forties.

Ali was joined by Adulkasim Nalla and the two batted steadily to see nearly the team home, Ali Asgar (57) falling with 1 run needed. We had had hail and sunshine and finished in a flurry of rain. Sadar joined Adulkasim who finished 53 not out after 28.1 overs.

Good to be back!

Dennis Fanus 6 overs 2-36
Mark Stephney 6 overs 2-29
