Saturday 12th June, Millfields.
Hackney CC (141 - 1 off 15.3 overs) beat Pacific CC (138 all out off 32 overs) by 9 wickets -
Hackney CC - Stranger Jones 55*, Sam Wrighton 59
Pacific CC - John Deighan 30, Nick Epstein 30
A hot and humid day at Millfields saw Pacific CC win the toss and make first use of a good looking track.
Rob Perrett, the still point of Hackney’s turning world, opened the bowling alongside Archie Woodhead. They began in fine fashion, piling on the pressure with terrific line and length, as Woodhead struck with his opening ball, trapping the dangerous Gain for just one. The opening 11 over spell went for just 34, with Perrett and Woodhead finishing with figures of 16-1 from 6 and 18-2 from 6 respectively.
The first change bowlers of Kartik Joshi and Jotham Tonge continued to keep the run rate in check. Tonge struck with the first ball of his opening two overs, while Joshi, seemingly keen to add a sense of symmetry to the bowling partnership, struck in each of his last two overs. Tonge and Joshi finished with figures of 18-2 from 5.4 and 37-2 from 8.
In a difficult batting innings, the main resistance was carved out by John Deighan 30 who was unlucky to be strangled down the leg side.
Charan Noothula and Ameya Tripathi took a wicket each, before the final wicket fell to a runout, leaving Hackney with a target of 139 to win.
Hackney’s openers made light work of the chase, with some friendly bowling paving the way to the finish line and early pints in the saturday sun. The rate rarely slowed as they sprinted towards the target, Dave Stranger Jones hitting 55* from 35 and Sam Wrighton 59 from 46. An emphatic victory for Hackney in a good natured match up.
